QUESTION

Since OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) & Safari 6 were launched on July 25th 2012, do I have to do anything on my v6.2 VSA setup to allow KLC to work with these software titles correctly?

ANSWER

Live Connect (KLC) functionality with thecurrent VSA release(K2 v6.2 )on Safari 6 and Mountain Lion 10.8 systems,  andneed the following things mustto be done in order to function properly:

• VSA - Follow these steps for patching KLC in your v6.2 VSA to work with Safari 6 browsers, 10.8 admin browsing machines, and 10.8 agent machines
• 10.8 Admin Browsing Machines - Follow these steps to allow v6.2 KLC Plug-in Manager installation if Gatekeeper is enabled
• VSA v6.2 & v6.3 - Remote Control & KLC Scenarios

Patching the v6.2 VSA

Download the patch that supports OS X 10.8 KLC admin browsing systems, Safari 6, 10.8 agents with enhanced mode support here.
Note-IfyourunVSAv6.3software,thisupdatedfileisalreadyincluded.Donotproceedifthatisyourcase.
Note - If you are a SaaS/Cloud-based customer, this patched file has been applied already.

To install the patch, do this:
---------
1 - On your VSA App machine, download & extract the above file (Kaseya.SB.VSAInterop.dll).
2 - Log out of your VSA, stop the IIS & the Kaseya Web Exec services (Start > Run > services.msc > World Wide Web Publishing Service & Kaseya Web Exec).
3 - Copy this extracted file to [Drive_Path]:\Kaseya\WebPages\KLC\Bin\ on the KServer (Make a copy of the existing version of this file outside of this \bin location prior to replacing it).
---------
Make sure to unblock the .dll file as noted here in this screenshot:
---------
---------
4 - Start the IIS & the Kaseya Web Exec services (Start > Run > services.msc > World Wide Web Publishing Service & Kaseya Web Exec).

Note - If you patch your VSA and KLC is no longer accessible due to a security issue error, do the following:

1 - Revert the original version of the patched file back to this location (make sure it is unblocked as well).
2 - Restart IIS (Start > Run > services.msc > World Wide Web Publishing Service).
3 - Raise a support ticket with Kaseya Support noting this and we will handle this further with you exclusively.

Installing the v6.2 KLC Plug-in Manager on 10.8 Mountain Lion Systems

By default, OS X 10.8 only allows applications to be downloaded from the Mac App Store or "identified developers" (meaning the app needs to be signed with an Apple Certificate). KLC plug-in manager for v6.2 does not have this certificate. This is controlled by a feature called "Gatekeeper".

Fromthenextreleaseof

Kaseya (v6.3),theVSAv6.3softwareincludes KLC plug-ins willbethatare signed with the Apple certificate so they can be downloaded and installed with the default Gatekeeper configuration. OS X 10.8 will be fully supported from this release, and the webpages will be updated to recognize it, 10.8 agents, and Safari 6 as supported. See the Mac OS section of this webpage for further details.

To install KLC browser plug-ins on OS X 10.8 from a Kaseya 6.2 system, proceed as follows:
1) Control-click/Right-click on the LiveConnect.pkg file and choose 'Open'. Gatekeeper will then prompt you if you would like to allow installation of this program as such:
Alternatively follow steps 2-6 allow non-prompted installation via System Preferences.

2) Launch System Preferences from the Apple menu
3) Select the Security & Privacy preference pane, and click on the General tab.
4) Under the "Allow applications downloaded from" heading, select "Anywhere"

5) Run PluginManager.pkg to install the Plugin Manager (this will be downloaded when logging onto the VSA or starting a KLC connection)

6) When the installer has completed, change the "Allow applications downloaded from" back to its default value, which is "Mac App Store and identified developers"

There are certain scenarios for Remote Control VNC & KLC w/ Mac Agent machines, as KLC VNC Desktop Access to 10.7 and 10.8 agent machines does not presently work. See this article for further information on how to presently VNC to 10.7 and 10.8 agent machines and further scenarios.
